I love Cravings and have been going there for about 4 years now; it was one of the first restaurants I tried on campus. I really only ever get two things and that's the green beans and tomato egg. I've tried other dishes here and there, but I can't really speak on them (usually my Chinese friends order and we all share so I don't even know what I'm eating). I might be biased because I just love their green beans but my boyfriend also thinks the tomato egg is really good. Some of my friends also really like the eggplant. The man who works there is very nice and funny. He would start conversation sometimes. They also have hot Chrysanthemum tea for free which I love. It gives a hole in the wall vibe (as much as you can get in Champaign I feel like). The portions used to be bigger but it's understandable they're not as big now and still good for the price in my opinion. They have express options now where you can pick certain dishes from the line like Panda express so you can get your food right away but also have regular ordering where they make it when you order.

Cravings is located just a block over from Grainger Library and the CIF, which makes it the perfect post-study spot. It's usually packed, but the service is lightning-fast and they serve fresh chrysanthemum tea to keep you warm while you wait. The food here is hit-or-miss. It's a rung up from Chinese takeout but don't expect this to be the best Chinese food you've had. I personally like the bok choy w/ minced garlic & the salt and pepper chicken.

I'm bummed I never got to try this place during undergrad but I finally did during my trip back to champaign to visit a friend. This is a great place for authentic chinese food. I could tell just from the outside of the restaurant that the food was ganna be good. This place would be great for late night eats too. Portions are generous here so perfect for sharing! Salt and pepper fish filet: This may be my new favorite entree item to order. This was something I wouldn't normally order. My friend wanted to share an entree so I let her pick. It was delicious! Decently sized fish filets. Very crispy too. The flavor was on point. Comes with onion and pepper garnish. Spicy beef chow fun: Chow fun is always my go-to. This was yummy! Spice level was mild.

The value is great and it seems like the kitchen knows what they're doing because they have such an expansive menu. I like how they have complimentary tea and water dispenser. Particularly like the slightly sweetened chrysanthemum tea, as did my daughters who made a game of fire bucket brigade. The owner is from Malaysia so I imagine that if you wanted Malaysian cooking, just ask for it? Very friendly and an avid sport fan. Cravings was my first stop after 3hrs driving back from St Louis to Chicago. I needed food...it was hangry time. And along the way I was searching for the optimum ideals for what I like. Value, taste and a good time. I know they probably could cook a pleathora of great dishes, including more authentic stuff... The young guy sitting next to us in the table has a bowl full of chili stewed lamb or something like that and had a second helping of rice to box in the storage container he brought from home. How considerate I thought...must be a regular. But I didn't want anything fancy, or complex. I wanted typical Chinese American fare... I wanted stuff that I was not allowed to have as a son of a Chinese chef...SESAME CHICKEN AND Mongolian beef. So it's a bit different than what I'd usually order at an Asian restaurant. Now it was quite yummy, the sesame chicken was crispy and absolutely delicious, this is what you gauge sesame chicken by. I also had the Mongolian beef which was good as well, think sliced and very tasty. The lunch specials are great value. It was a good rest stop on our way home. Glad we stopped in. I think I'll be back next time I'm in town. I like how you have four Asian restaurants right next to each other in this block. Korean, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese. Figure this is where the international students default go-to spot in campus.
